Strength training isn't just about having the biggest muscles. Training in this style favors neurological adaptation, or making the signals sent to your muscles stronger in order to move heavier weight over time and build strength that carries into real life. Lifting weights is one of the most powerful ways to support a longevity and long-term health.
Proprioception is the ability to perceive the location, movement, and action of parts of the body. Building this awareness will allow you to move through classes with control, intention, and use your body as a tool. Improve balance and coordination, feel more connected to your body, and reduce risk of injury through better movement patterns.
To be a well-rounded athlete and reach better cardiovascular health, we have to spend time building endurance. Some classes may include monostructural cardio, or single-movement cyclical movements like rowing, running, skiing, or biking. Incorporating endurance training helps build stamina, increase energy, improve workout performance and recovery, and handle higher intensities with greater ease.
Being mobile and flexible means moving lifts through an entire range of motion. While mobility does require some flexibility, you also have to have the neuromuscular control over your movements. In classes, you will spend time practicing movement patterns both during warm-up drills and in actual workouts. Outside of training, this can help improve posture, reduce stiffness, and increase quality of life.
